How to get new customers from among your existing ones!

Today is my birthday!

I care that it's my birthday today. I had a celebration with all my 11 grandchildren their parents and assorted other family members.

Yep, birthdays are important to you, me, and to everyone.

They are especially important to your customers.

How to get new customers, can be as easy as remembering your current customer's birthdays!

Good service is no longer good enough these days.

Are you actively looking for ways to 'delight your customer' instead?

If you aren't, your competition are glad. They'd love to take them off you.

During conversations, people make mention of their birthdate.

"Oh, last Tuesday my wife took me out for my birthday . . ."

"It was my birthday last week and we had a family dinner" - you could ask "Oh, when last week was your birthday?" They are usually happy to tell you.

If you know they are on Facebook, go into their profile and take note of their birthdate.

How to get new customers can be as easy as making your present customers feel so special, that they recommend you to their friends.

What do you do with these little bits of information (like their birthdate)?

Write them down.

Better still, enter them into your phone calendar as a recurring annual appointment and put an alarm on it.

Next time your important client's birthday comes up, your phone's calendar will remind you to send them a funny sms message as a birthday greeting.

Here is the text message I send to each person on their birthday during this year:

"[I insert their name here],

Don't stress about your eyesight failing as you get older.

It's God's way of protecting you from the shock, as you walk past the mirror ;-)

Enjoy your birthday my friend,

Paul Johnson"

I've been doing this for years and have a huge database of recurring birthday reminders.

Simple?

Will you try it?

You may find (as I have) that some people say "you know Paul, you are the only one who remembers my birthday!"

Sad isn't it.

It's the little little things that matter,

Till next time,

p.s. Just a word of warning - don't record their wedding anniversary date. Why?

Well, people split up. I was embarrassed after sending an anniversary congratulations, to someone who had separated from their spouse.  :-(

Hi Paul,

I just wanted to say that I’m usually busy in my business and my inbox gets lots of ‘newsletters’ from people. I don’t have time to read them – I usually delete them.

But your reports are different. I was sceptical at first, but they put a smile on my face (we must have a similar sense of humour). I find myself stopping to read them, for two reasons:

1. You add a ‘human’ face to your reports; I identify with the stories you tell, to make your point, and 2. They always contain useful hints and tips I can use in my business.

I appreciate your generosity with your ideas.
